I've seen more of my home state visiting various county jails and courthouses and prisons than I ever would have imagined. And most of us don't have reason to think much about it, but jails and prisons and halfway-houses and group homes are all over. I mean, not just across the state, but down the block and around the corner too.
I got to visit a new jail today and had to speak with my client via video-phone. It seemed unnecessarily high tech. And even though I was never in the physical presence of my client, I still had to lock up my bag and go through the metal detector. Like, what, through the phone I'm going to slip him a cake with an iron file baked into it?
